Lifestyle Portraits

What is lifestyle portraiture?

The definition of lifestyle portraiture can be quite broad, but generally speaking it is a kind of photography that aims to capture people in real life situations.  Admittedly, when I'm talking about shooting lifestyle portraits with my clients, I'm not really looking to capture "real life".  What I'm really talking about is getting some great looking photos anywhere that's not in a studio!

A lifestyle portrait session would suit someone who would like some great photos either of themselves, or perhaps their family, but doesn't feel comfortable going to a studio.  Studio photography can sometimes feel quite formal, and the thought of visiting a studio can be quite intimidating for a lot of people.

If this is sounding all too familiar then a lifestyle portrait session might be just the thing for you.

What to expect...

The idea of a lifestyle portrait session is to capture beautiful, but natural-looking images.  The first step, and perhaps the most important, is deciding on a location.  This could be anywhere you like- a park, a forest, a beach, or even a city centre (although if you're a little self-conscious about having your photo taken in public, then you'll probably prefer somewhere quiet!).  The options really are endless here and I'm more than happy to be flexible and work with whatever your preferences are.

Once we've decided on a location, we'll meet there on the agreed date and start snapping some shots.  I don't like to set a time limit on these sessions as it depends on a variety of factors, but an hour or so is usually plenty of time to capture a nice variety of images.  There's no pressure at all during these sessions- we'll take our time and try a few different set ups and just see what works.

Although the aim is to capture natural-looking shots, most of the shots will still have a certain amount of set up.  The fact is, most people feel a little awkward in front of the camera and it's my job to make them look as natural and comfortable as possible.  I've always thought that the perfect posed shot is one that doesn't look posed at all!  So don't worry if you don't know how to stand or where your hands should go- I'll be there to guide you through each shot.

Prices

I try to keep my prices as simple and transparent as possible for all my services, and lifestyle portraits are no exception- I charge a flat fee of £50 per session.  As with all my prices, this includes digital copies of images (fully edited) at no extra cost.

If a typical portrait session isn't quite what you're looking for, then please don't hesitate to pick up the phone and give me a call- I'd be happy to discuss any specific requirements you might have and agree a bespoke price that works for you.
